Rep. Jim Jordan accused Gov. Tim Walz of misrepresenting a court’s role in restarting payments to Feeding Our Future, a nonprofit tied to a $250 million COVID-era child nutrition fraud case.

The order did not identify the judge in question but two sources familiar with the process told NPR it is U.S. District Judge Lydia Kay Griggsby, a Biden appointee.

The nonexistent cases were first introduced by opposing counsel, but the appellant's lawyer didn't spot the error at the trial court, and submitted a proposed order to the trial court that cited those cases.

The high court's reasoning in the NY-11 case could also foreshadow its approach in Louisiana v. Callais, a closely watched redistricting case pending before the justices.
